No..because it's not fair if India has the power...because the other countries have signed an agreement with U.N. saying that they will stop using nuclear weapons in wars....

I don't think any country should have nuclear weapons... nuclear weapons technology is a curse, and it's the only thing we have ever created that really has the potential to end life on this planet. Out of sheer idiocy and arrogance, the United States and the former Soviet Union precipitated this nuclear arms race - possibly the biggest and most spectacular blunder ever made in this planet's history. As an Indian, I'm naturally proud that my country was capable of developing this technology independently, and I feel that India definitely needs some kind of deterrence against her nuclear armed neighbours, but I'm very unhappy that India hasn't signed the NPT. I think India should stop producing new nuclear weapons (and every country for that matter), and that India and other nuclear powers should join the US and Russia in disposing of their nuclear weapons as soon as possible... but I don't think India is a big problem at all compared with some other countries - Israel with their 300 undeclared nuclear weapons, North Korea, Pakistan (as I couldn't imagine what would happen if the Taliban did manage to capture even one bomb), and possibly Iran (unless they're telling the truth). Also keep in mind that the freedom-loving Americans who are trying to rid the world of nukes are the only ones to have actually used them - and that to against civilian populations in Japan. Nuclear weapons maintain a constant cold war atmosphere of fear and mistrust and should be done away with for good.

I would like to tell you all that India follows with the arms control policy which means it will produce weapons only to defend itself and not to attack any country to overtake it.
So India will only produce nuclear weapons for it's defense that too after it thinks that the normal weapons which are usually used are not efficient. Nuclear weapons will be used once the fight or war has reached an extend.

The sort of logic that makes every teenager in english schools carry a knife. I Will demonstrate against nuclear weapons in my country if you do in yours.

I actually don't agree that all the countries should have the nuclear power because there are some countries which will produce nuclear weapons even for small small wars which can be overcome by using the normal weapons...
You know Taliban and all if they get such powers they'll destroy the whole world...

I don't mean to point out anyone if they stay in Pakistan this just a general statement..

Yes. They should have. Every country should try to have. It increases the power and status of the country.

when a country have nuclear power , it does not mean it will use it to make nuclear weapons , nuclear power can be used for many useful things.

also as time is passing by ,we are running out of fossil fuel and petrol , so nuclear power will be the only option for us

so every country should have nuclear power to grantee its future  :P

If each country on this planet has nuclear power, there would be no need of money..no need for LIFE actually..

Life means unequality...

u said that if every country have nuclear power , then there is no need for life

life has nothing to do with AMERICA OR RUSSIA

Two different points

it will benefit all the aspects of a country , like the way we live ,..........etc

Just imagine every country in this world with nuclear power...

Each country will assume its the strongest/best country...they want to maintain and dominate their thoughts and opinions,,

there will be ENDLESS wars....

aint that right?

nuclear power , does not mean  weapons , wars, killing,.......etc

nuclear power is energy , useful energy that can help and can be used for our advantage

Name me ONE country in this world that has nuclear power without nuclear weapons...

Eg: IRAN...the whole world is shaking from it now..u see iran is saying it has "peaceful" nuclear powers..but do u really think its true?

this topic isnt about naming a country that have nuclear power or dont have

im not talking about iran or any other country, im talking in general .

i will repeat it again  nuclear power does not mean nuclear weapon  just put this in ur mind

Advantages of Nuclear Energy

o The Earth has limited supplies of coal and oil. Nuclear power plants could still produce electricity after coal and oil become scarce.

o Nuclear power plants need less fuel than ones which burn fossil fuels. One ton of uranium produces more energy than is produced by several million tons of coal or several million barrels of oil.

o Coal and oil burning plants pollute the air. Well-operated nuclear power plants do not release contaminants into the environment.

Disadvantages : (I believe the disadvantages outcome the advantages and that Nuclear power is not a necessity we will survive without it.)

*Nuclear energy produces radiation which consists of subatomic particles that penetrates deep inside the body and initiate cancer
*Nuclear power has the potential to be very dangerous if it is put into the wrong hands. When the fission process occurs inside of a nuclear plant, it is controlled and stabilized. When this same process is used in an uncontrolled environment, a nuclear bomb is created and nuclear power can become a huge form of terrorism.
Even in situations where the nuclear energy is stable, accidents may occur. A plant meltdown at the Chernobyl reactor caused a huge spread of radiation and danger to all of Europe. If meltdowns like this occur at bigger plants, then even more harm can be done to the world. After the nuclear hit in Japan, survivors gave birth to disgusting, revolting and sometimes deformed children. >>> this what we are talking about.
*if out enemies get a hold of our plants they could use it against us with the amount of pletonium that we use to make our power.
*Pletonium, the biproduct of nuclear reactors, has a half life of about 10 thousand years and is therefor hard to dispose of.
*Nuclear power plants are very expensive to build
*Uranium is not renewable and can lead to environmental problems through the mining and processing.
*Harmful radiation has had negative affects on people and animals that have included deformation, disease and even death. A cancer caused by radiation can also develop, but the more extreme affects require an enormous amount of radiation exposure.
*

every thing in this world have advantages & disadvantages ,except very few things

but by time we can overcome & reduce  some of these disadvantages and increase the advantages

Atomic Bombs ensure a country's safety. Even America is sacred to go on war with countries who possess atomic bombs for obvious reasons. If a country possesses atomic bombs, it thus has more safety. Other countries will not have the courage to attack it straight away.

Therefore, a country should try to possess or create AS MUCH NUCLEAR WEAPONS AS POSSIBLE to ensure the safety of its citizens from foreign invasion.

only ONLY ONNNNNLYYYYY one big disadvantage... radioactivity/blasts/radiatiion/cancer/mutation.

when every country have a nuclear power , this does not means equality

nuclear power is much similar to fuel but with higher energies

and every country in this world have fuel , does this mean all countries are equal in the present time

it seems like u are the one who dont get it, not me  :P

As far as nuclear weapons are concerned, I already explained why countries should try to create or possess as much nuclear weapons as it can.

Now for the power thing. Yes. It has a certain disadvantage of radioactivity. But its advantages far outweigh the SOLE disadvantage of radioactivity. As coal, oil and natural gas becomes exhausted, it will be a valuable source of energy. It will be necessary to maintain our current standard of living. To do that, we will HAVE to use nuclear power.
Title: Re: should india be a nuclear power?

So nuclear power is needed for a lot of things and to use it wisely we need someone to take decisions for how to, how much, and when to use it and even with what all precautions...so there again will be a fight for all these authorities...it's better we first use whatever we have once we think that what we have will not last for ong we can then use nuclear energy..

@stylish i don't really think we should produce as many as possible nuclear weapons 'cause they can cause harm due to any catastrophe.

America is no longer a superpower. Its economy is in shambles; because of the crisis and spending in Iraq and Afghanistan.

Indian and China rule now.
