actually, it isn't. anime are cartoons that come from JAPAN. that's the only requirement. the art style of anime is usually much different than from western cartoons like tom and jerry, tin tin and stuff from nickelodeon or cartoon network.

They are also VERY LONG. Too many episodes and if it's more than 36 episodes, it gets really boring w it gets too much details and all.
