ummm.. could anyone tell me what is the function of a transistor ? it switching device.. yeah? i get the base emitter collecter thing.. but they ask in the exam how do u define a transitor? as a current amplifier or summat?

The design of a transistor allows it to function as an amplifier or a switch. This is accomplished by using a small amount of electricity to control a gate on a much larger supply of electricity, much like turning a valve to control a supply of water.

Transistor terminalsTransistors are composed of three parts – a base, a collector, and an emitter. The base is the gate controller device for the larger electrical supply. The collector is the larger electrical supply, and the emitter is the outlet for that supply. By sending varying levels of current from the base, the amount of current flowing through the gate from the collector may be regulated. In this way, a very small amount of current may be used to control a large amount of current, as in an amplifier.

Hope that helps :)

I think c too. The size of the gap is larger than the wavelength so diffraction happens only at the edges. I found all the papers here.

Think ratios and ignore the bus. Just take the passengers into accoount. For B the cog is 1/5 of the way from the bottom to top passengers but for A the cog is at the level of the bottom passengers.

I dont think you really need to worry about the ratio. Just because there is someone on the top the cog will be higher up

@ cherrip

look the concept for the variable resistor is that the more turn the current passes to the more resistance and at x the current passed all the turns so the resistance is high and the current is low which means no current thus no rotation +rep plz

heating simply does not demagnetize the magnet it needs to be red hot and then blown with a hammer. So it is A.

because if more than required current will be supplied.. the wires will overheat.. but not tht the lamp will explode..because as wires gona overheat.. they will melt.. causing the circuit to be incomplete.. so no current goes to lamp.

Hope tht helps.

The answer is B.. because the current has to pass through the variable resistor in order to go to the output..thts why we can alter the resistance in B.. but if you look at A for example.. the current does not have to pass through the v. resistor in order for the circuit to be complete?

Hope it helps :)

well.. it gives hint tht one or more on x and rest on y.. and if we see the combinations.. only B fits the answer as it have "one" 5 which goes to X and "2,2,2" is rest (left) which goes to Y. Its now balanced as 5=5

Hope it helps :)

Theres no such question on year 98 question 24 abt lamps??? and question 18.. as it stats tht wave travell slower in shallow.. so we see which is the closet point from the drop.. tht is A.. so the answer is A.

if resistor works then less current will flow through the resistor n more will flow through the lamp side.. so this makes the lamp brighter. so the answer is B.

sry i dnt get that cuz if resistor was not there then the whole battery current will be flowed to the lamp but when connected then voltage will be shared but same current so it will not be brighter or dimmer it will be the same cuz it is in series and the current is the same so why they choose brighter

the current starts to flow... and it goes through resistor to lamp.. but not from switch as its not complete so current to tht way is wasted... but wen switch is closed.. the current tht is wasted up going there adds too.. so now it becoomes more current.. so more current = more brightness. Hope u understand ?

the lamp becomes brighter because when the switch was closed it was off..

n a parallel circuit the voltages across the devices are same but the current is diffferent

therfore --> I (1) + I (2) = I

when lamp N is removed there is no I (2)
soo I has to be less

it is C

i just checked out my book it says
" the sum of the currents in the branches of a parallel circuit equals the current entering or leaving the parallel section"

so if a branch (lamp N) is removed
the total sum will reduce

i'm not arguing

as far as my brain works... not sure if it does.. but the answer should be A.. as the current wont decrease or increase but jst go thru M only instead of M and N. so i guess you r correct priceless :)

Post by: Hope on June 09, 2009, 07:47:58 pm
The answer to your qn would definitely be C.

And this is because..

When you have M and N..they're connected in parallel. Lamps form resistence..Hence, their overall resistance is less than both, right?

However, when you are left with one lamp, in series with the ammeter.. The resistance is increased.

Thus, the current, is decreased..

If you analyse the circuit, you will see that this proves to be right!

Hope I helped :)

still on syllabus
i had da sme prob but....
now i tink its 4 sure C
more dan one reason
one : yes wen its in series resistance increases thus current decreases
two: HAVE U EVER READ ON A BATTERY SUPPLY OF CURRENT? NO, CUSE CURRENT ISN'T DEPENDANT ON DA CELL buh upon voltage and resistance across da cell....its a variable value nt like voltage fixed due to the cell supply  8)
so its C

I ASKED THE SAME ELECTRICAL ENGINEER AGAIN AND HE SAID WE SHOULD CHOOSE C I WAS WRONG IN THE BEGINNING AND THE JUSTIFICATION IS THAT THE CURRENT IN THE PARALLEL CIRCUIT DEPEND ON THE TOTAL VOLTAGE AND TOTAL RESISTANCE SO CHANGING ONE WILL OBVIOUSLY CHANGE THE CURRENT AND AS THE RESISTANCE INCREASED THE CURRENT WILL BE DECREASED WHICH HOPE EXPLAINED ABOVE

Because the lamps are not in parallel anymore. M is left in series, when N is removed. And as you know, effective resistance is lesser in parallel, than when in series!

yup it is A.. as u can also see tht it is more filled unlike D.. so it wud require more heat to get hot
