ummm.. could anyone tell me what is the function of a transistor ? it switching device.. yeah? i get the base emitter collecter thing.. but they ask in the exam how do u define a transitor? as a current amplifier or summat?

ummm.. could anyone tell me what is the function of a transistor ? it switching device.. yeah? i get the base emitter collecter thing.. but they ask in the exam how do u define a transitor? as a current amplifier or summat?
The design of a transistor allows it to function as an amplifier or a switch. This is accomplished by using a small amount of electricity to control a gate on a much larger supply of electricity, much like turning a valve to control a supply of water.
Transistor terminalsTransistors are composed of three parts – a base, a collector, and an emitter. The base is the gate controller device for the larger electrical supply. The collector is the larger electrical supply, and the emitter is the outlet for that supply. By sending varying levels of current from the base, the amount of current flowing through the gate from the collector may be regulated. In this way, a very small amount of current may be used to control a large amount of current, as in an amplifier.
Hope that helps :)

I think c too. The size of the gap is larger than the wavelength so diffraction happens only at the edges. I found all the papers here.

Need help for November 1997 paper Q.No.%. Why is answer " A"..regarding centre of gravity.
-
sorry nov.1997 question no.5

could u give me a more detailed explanation..still cannot figure it
-
I dont think you really need to worry about the ratio. Just because there is someone on the top the cog will be higher up

@ cherrip
look the concept for the variable resistor is that the more turn the current passes to the more resistance and at x the current passed all the turns so the resistance is high and the current is low which means no current thus no rotation +rep plz

the questions asks which of them wouldn't work. Since iron, copper and aluminium are conductors the setup will work but if nylon fishing net it used it won't be able to conduct and the experiment won't work. I hope it's clear

i have also another prob in 94 may question 14 the answer is A how can it be magnetised while the heater is on i mean heating demagnetize magnets right or they choose A because iron rod is not a magnet so any current will easily magnetize it as iron can be magnetized easily???

heating simply does not demagnetize the magnet it needs to be red hot and then blown with a hammer. So it is A.

Thnkz ammar...all da best ;)

I need some help ..May 1998 .Q31 why is the answer "c" and not "b"
because if more than required current will be supplied.. the wires will overheat.. but not tht the lamp will explode..because as wires gona overheat.. they will melt.. causing the circuit to be incomplete.. so no current goes to lamp.
Hope tht helps.

The answer is B.. because the current has to pass through the variable resistor in order to go to the output..thts why we can alter the resistance in B.. but if you look at A for example.. the current does not have to pass through the v. resistor in order for the circuit to be complete?
Hope it helps :)

ok i have a doubt in nov 96 Q 4 how do i know the correct masses and why we choose one and not the other thx
-
ok i have a doubt in nov 96 Q 4 how do i know the correct masses and why we choose one and not the other thx
well.. it gives hint tht one or more on x and rest on y.. and if we see the combinations.. only B fits the answer as it have "one" 5 which goes to X and "2,2,2" is rest (left) which goes to Y. Its now balanced as 5=5
Hope it helps :)

ok on Q 16 same paper im confused why not choose D i know the electromagnetic spectrum and their arangment and also the dispersion of white light
-
ok on Q 16 same paper im confused why not choose D i know the electromagnetic spectrum and their arangment and also the dispersion of white light
A because infra-red waves have shorter wavelength and also it comes before visible light.. so tht gives us a hint.
-
ok i have a doubt in nov 96 Q 4 how do i know the correct masses and why we choose one and not the other thx
d weight is a force in newtons
a X mass is not a force
b X mas is not a force
c X wieigth is not measured in KG

i have a question in june 98 Q 24 how the lamp will be brighter when the current will have to pass through the resistor mark scheme answers says B and also i dnt understand the answer for Q 18 i dnt get it thx :D
-
i have a question in june 98 Q 24 how the lamp will be brighter when the current will have to pass through the resistor mark scheme answers says B and also i dnt understand the answer for Q 18 i dnt get it thx :D
Theres no such question on year 98 question 24 abt lamps??? and question 18.. as it stats tht wave travell slower in shallow.. so we see which is the closet point from the drop.. tht is A.. so the answer is A.
-
28 sry typing mistake ;D
-
28 sry typing mistake ;D
if resistor works then less current will flow through the resistor n more will flow through the lamp side.. so this makes the lamp brighter. so the answer is B.
-
sry i dnt get that cuz if resistor was not there then the whole battery current will be flowed to the lamp but when connected then voltage will be shared but same current so it will not be brighter or dimmer it will be the same cuz it is in series and the current is the same so why they choose brighter
-
whats the answer in the markscheme??
-
b
-
b
the current starts to flow... and it goes through resistor to lamp.. but not from switch as its not complete so current to tht way is wasted... but wen switch is closed.. the current tht is wasted up going there adds too.. so now it becoomes more current.. so more current = more brightness. Hope u understand ?
-
i guess its this way..
the lamp becomes brighter because when the switch was closed it was off..
trivky question
will have to think
-
omg im an idiot i should have read the Q carefully sry guys for wasting ur time i thought vice versia that the question said when the switch is closed it will be less bright lol
-
no probs...+rep

guys nov 2000 Q16...the answer in da MS is A...bt isn't it supposd 2 b B?
plz chek :)
-
i thik its A too..
the steam would cause a little expansion but this particular shape would prevent it..
pressure changes are not in the lime light as steam has to do more about expansion
-
its definitely A :)
-
its definitely A :)
Yup it is :)
-
dudes the mark scheme is wrong on q 26 paper 98 nov they say it is C and it should be A
-
n a parallel circuit the voltages across the devices are same but the current is diffferent
therfore --> I (1) + I (2) = I
when lamp N is removed there is no I (2)
soo I has to be less
it is C
-
dude i asked an electrical engineer right now and he said it should be A because the ammeter reads the total current and if one removed the total current supplied by the battery would still be the same it is so obvious they are wrong :-\ >:(
-
if one is removed the total current will be reduced right??
anyway...u r right....relax....
good luck
night
-
no it wont be reduced
-
ohh...
thanks for the info
good luck brother
hope u do extremely well!!
-
i just checked out my book it says
" the sum of the currents in the branches of a parallel circuit equals the current entering or leaving the parallel section"
so if a branch (lamp N) is removed
the total sum will reduce
i'm not arguing
just to help you for ur physics exam..
peace.. :)
-
Adii ... arent u taking ur examz next year ?
-
yes i am
-
adi...just 2 correct u...da total current duznt get reduced....if a lamp is removed....da resistance decreases.....den current wud split according 2 dat
plz correct me if im wrong ;D
-
if the effecitve resistance decreases, the the current should increase right
inversely proportoinal??
-
adi...just 2 correct u...da total current duznt get reduced....if a lamp is removed....da resistance decreases.....den current wud split according 2 dat
plz correct me if im wrong ;D
as far as my brain works... not sure if it does.. but the answer should be A.. as the current wont decrease or increase but jst go thru M only instead of M and N. so i guess you r correct priceless :)
-
yes if the voltage is fixed
-
The answer to your qn would definitely be C.
And this is because..
When you have M and N..they're connected in parallel. Lamps form resistence..Hence, their overall resistance is less than both, right?
However, when you are left with one lamp, in series with the ammeter.. The resistance is increased.
Thus, the current, is decreased..
If you analyse the circuit, you will see that this proves to be right!
Hope I helped :)
-
yes im with hmh and if u r crazy or stupid no offense lol then im with u cuz i think it is A too
-
can anybody giv me this pastpaper cuz i dnt hv it.....i ll like 2 luk at da ques plz....thnku
-
ok look to end this the ammeter is put where infront of the direction of current so decreasing or increasing or removing all the lamps won't affect it cuz it only measure the current from the cell
-
can anybody giv me this pastpaper cuz i dnt hv it.....i ll like 2 luk at da ques plz....thnku
Its here lol.. on same topic but jst some pages bak :P

astar too think its C

thnkz guyz :)...give me a sec...i ll try 2 ans
-
is solar and tidal and nuclear energy and their uses of making electricity is on the syllabus ? or is it removed
-
is solar and tidal and nuclear energy and their uses of making electricity is on the syllabus ? or is it removed
I guess they are still on syllabus.
-
is solar and tidal and nuclear energy and their uses of making electricity is on the syllabus ? or is it removed
still on syllabus
i had da sme prob but....
now i tink its 4 sure C
more dan one reason
one : yes wen its in series resistance increases thus current decreases
two: HAVE U EVER READ ON A BATTERY SUPPLY OF CURRENT? NO, CUSE CURRENT ISN'T DEPENDANT ON DA CELL buh upon voltage and resistance across da cell....its a variable value nt like voltage fixed due to the cell supply 8)
so its C
-
I ASKED THE SAME ELECTRICAL ENGINEER AGAIN AND HE SAID WE SHOULD CHOOSE C I WAS WRONG IN THE BEGINNING AND THE JUSTIFICATION IS THAT THE CURRENT IN THE PARALLEL CIRCUIT DEPEND ON THE TOTAL VOLTAGE AND TOTAL RESISTANCE SO CHANGING ONE WILL OBVIOUSLY CHANGE THE CURRENT AND AS THE RESISTANCE INCREASED THE CURRENT WILL BE DECREASED WHICH HOPE EXPLAINED ABOVE
-
yes :P
-
i agree wid ur 2nd reason but can u plz explain y wud R increase?
-
cuz in parralel the resistance is less it is given by the equation R=1\r1+1\r2 then invert the answer
-
Because the lamps are not in parallel anymore. M is left in series, when N is removed. And as you know, effective resistance is lesser in parallel, than when in series!
-
rite...thnkz.. ;D
gud luck guyz....im goin 2 sleep.....Take care n sweet dreams ;)

only if i culd see the image bit bigger... wat year n question lol ?
-
im pretty sure that it is because it has the biggest mass and theyre all made of the same element, it will logically require the most to heat up the one with most mass? as theyre all iron and a is heaviest...logically the answer should be a =p
-
i attached the image so that u can download and it is in nov 99 Q 14

yup it is A.. as u can also see tht it is more filled unlike D.. so it wud require more heat to get hot
-
i attached the image so that u can download and it is in nov 99 Q 14
oh.. well i cant download llol..dnt knw why.. but i zoomed in and looked :P
