Hi Dizzy!

Just before I go onto answer your question, why on earth, do you want to go to Cambridge, when there are institutions in America that are way better, I mean Cambridge is also exasperatingly expensive....

Prospective applicants from the USA taking SATs and Advanced Placement Tests should note that offers are usually made on an individual basis. In addition to a high pass in the High School Diploma and the SAT, successful applicants have normally achieved 5s in at least five Advanced Placement Tests in appropriate subjects.

I think if you explain your situation in a little more detail, I will endeavour to answer your questions with a higher level of quality.

Take something like 8 AP subjects, and get 5s in all of them...

I just want to know, AP is usually for people who want to study in America, how come you want to study in Cambridge? It seems awkward, because if you are American, there are FAR better institutions in America.

If you are an international candidate, then Cambridge is really expensive, so please think twice before applying. The cost of living is more than the tuition fees!

No, I am not American. I know a wide range of qualifications. 8 is not impossible actually, because if you take AP, it will also give you a lot of credits into Ivy league colleges. How many are you taking at the moment?

AP is a little looked down upon in England. The A Levels are seen as a far more challenging course.

But all the American Universities meet your educational needs 100%, especially the Ivy league Unis.

But, in England, you gotta pay, if your international. And, the difference is that they DO NOT give scholarships, and what they give is very minor and not enough to pay for the whole thing.

Tell me which subject you would want to study, so I can make more appropriate recommendations.

For MIT, you also need to do the SAT II.

Here is more information on the AP exam.

Hi Dizzy,
Actually I'm at Cambridge Uni right now and I would hugely recommend it. The level of tuition is some of the highest in the world and it is consistently ranked in the very top in international league tables. Of course cost is a big issue, but my college (st. John's) certianly offers certain help and grants. For example you can get a huge amount of help with your costs for things like study materials and books, and every student automatically gets half of the money they spend on books reimbursed by the college every term. I also became a scholar at the end of my first year and yes you do get financial assistance as a result of winning a scholarship. My friend is an international student from Athens and the college has been hugely supportive of her financially. You have an individual tutor who you can go to to talk about financial issues and the college is often able to help. There are also several university wide prizes, grants and scholarships available to help with tuition fees, I have friends who have benefitted from them, and within the college there are prizes awarded every year from bequests from past students and alumni, often specifically targetted at helping foreign students or those who are struggling financially, and you can apply for all of these.
In terms of your application, Cambridge obviously looks for extremely high academic results, so absolutely push yourself to achieve the highest possible grades, but remember that your extra-curricular activities are also taken into account, so if you can prove you have been involved in activities at school that involve teamwork or responsibility or leadership etc. those are always good to do so you can mention them in your application form. Also whatever subject you decide to study it is really helpful if you can show that you have made the effort to do some work experience or shadowing in that area, as that is likely to aid your application also. Most of all don't give up or be discouraged, it is one of the top universities in the world as the rankings consistently prove, and has 80 Nobel prizes to its credit, more than any other university in the world, so why not reach for your dream?
Really really good luck, I hope this helps
Laura

But regardless, the American Universities are far more supportive financially. They also have far more funding than UK bodies, so they are better equipped. I know that Cambridge and Oxford are the best UK has to offer, but the Universities in America will offer better financial assistance as well as education.

@Laurabates: OMG i cant thank u enough!!!!!! u know this is like the information i was seeking from soo much time. I wanted it from someone inside the college but could not find anyone.
By the way i wanted to ask, have u seen any kids who r from USA there??? and do they accept students from USA. And when u mean academics what do they want like exactly??? im taking 4 AP courses this yr. and yes i will try to achieve my best. And yes im doing extra curricular activities too. like student council, french club and many more. plus im gonna start volunteer in a med-hospital cause i wanna go in the science field. so does that all count towards me???
And yes about finance could u give me a total no. of how much it would exactly cost??? and yess i will need a lot lot lot of financial help. cause i know the tuition is crazy for out of state students.
Also I wanted to go to the Trinity college. R u familiar with it??? Is it good???
Also could u give me any other info about Cambridge that will be helpful. Should i like create a portfolio or sumthing.... anything that helps. I still have 2 yrs. before i will start college.
Thanks so much for ur help... :) :)
