Urgent Computer Issue Help!
« on: July 14, 2010, 12:22:31 pm »
Hey Everybody,

So when my laptop boots up, some programs start automatically and appear on my screen, like messenger, etc..

So how do I alter what programs start when the computer boots?

Thanks in advance!

Please give me your OS.

But on the whole, this process can be made much simpler with the use of maintainable tools.

Use TuneUp Utilities to select the programs you want to start at the computer startup.

Tried msconfig?

Things related with booting or startup can be configured by it.

Click on start.. Then in the search box type msconfig ... Then Select the "startup" tab. Then untick any program you don't want to see during startup.

No need for any extra software.

Start Command prompt.

type "msconfig"

Select startup tab.

Disable all programs you don't need. You'll find yahoo messenger there and also loads of other useless programs.

Click apply. Then close.

Restart computer.

Dr. Evil's alternative is the better one.

But this is also viable.

To use Windows Defender to disable programs in Windows XP Home Edition, follow these steps:
1. Click Start, click All Programs, and then click Windows Defender.
2. Click Tools, and then click Software Explorer.
3. Click the application name in the Name column that you want to disable, and then click Disable.

I would advise any and all not to mess with MS-DOS unless they know basic code.
