Natural Oleander:
Technicians are not much respected in the society compared to other professions like doctors, lawyers, architects and the like. Why is this so????and what are the advantages and disadvantages of being a technician???

$tyli$h Executive:
Technicians? But Doctors, engineers and architects are technicians too! ::)

I think you mean the electricians, plumbers, roof repairers etc?

'Respect' is a subjective word. But considering that its proportional to the wage or salary received:

Their value of 'output' is less than that of the engineers etc. An engineer plans the whole building, as a result, he is in charge of the whole building. Whereas, the electrician is only responsible for wiring the electrical points. This results in the former earning more, and thus higher respect.

Personally, I think prioritizing occupations according to 'respect' is wrong. The money is a better measure.

Advantage of being a technician is that you can be creative, and work on your own pace!

yea i mean building technicians...but the thing is if it yields so little why do people go in for it...is it because of lack of option or love for the field because i think the money is too little to consider

I think its mainly because they do not have the necessary skills to take up a better paying job. For example, a plumber definitely does not have the expertise of an engineer. If he wants, he has to study again and will have to take up an uni course, for which they are too lazy.
