Websites Supporting the Application of Chemistry Section
The Chemistry of Life
http://www.chem4kids.com/files/bio_enzymes.html
This site has very useful and accessible information on enzymes and how they work. It also has links to other aspects of this topic such as proteins, nucleic acids and DNA.

http://nobelprize.org/educational_games/medicine/gene-code/how.html
This is a very accessible site providing both information about the genetic code and a game to help students understand. The website also has other relevant games.

http://chemistry.about.com/od/medicalhealth/Health_Medicinal_Chemistry.htm
About.com is a useful website for A level chemistry particularly in the Applications section (see other entries). This section has links to a wide range of interesting and accessible articles on medicinal chemistry.

Applications of Analytical Chemistry
http://www.chem.uic.edu/web1/OCOL-II/WIN/SPEC.HTM
This is a little advanced for A level, but does provide some useful material on NMR and mass spectroscopy. There are spectra to interpret and problems to try, although the material on 13C NMR spectroscopy is not needed for A level.

http://chemistry.about.com/od/chromatography/Chromatography.htm
This is another section in About.com and gives useful links to experiments and articles using different chromatographic techniques.

Design and Materials
http://www.crnano.org/basics.htm
This website deals with some of the basic aspects of nanotechnology, as well as looking at possible developments.

http://biotech.about.com/od/nanotechnology/a/nanomedicine.htm
This is the third section from About.com, and deals more specifically about nanotechnology and medicine. It links nicely with the section on the Chemistry of Life.

http://www.rsc.org/chemsoc/gcn/industry.htm#consumer
This website deals with ‘green chemistry’ and the efficient use of materials. Some of the material is a little complex, but much of it is accessible to A level students.
