acash09:
Hey guys, need some good notes about the following point in the CIE AS- and A-Level chemistry syllabus:

"Describe the mechanism of electrophilic addition in alkenes, using bromine/ethene as an example"

I need notes that contain information about the so-called "Bromonium ion"

Our teacher said that this is the case about electrophilic addition in alkenes and gave us notes about it, and not the ones in many CIE endorsed books.
I used to have notes about these but ive lost them ::) and i have a holiday now and i cant get them. Searched on the internet and found results that are too complicated for us to know.

Any help is appreciated.

The bromine molecule moves towards the C=C bond and a dipole moment is created with the bromine atom next to the C=C being slightly positive and the other being slightly negative.

One bromine atom attaches to Ethene to form a transition state molecule (the ion you are talking about):

None available. You should have done quite a few actual practicals at your school.

Ask your teachers for practical booklet.
