Using a control in an experiment.
So say catalase (enzyme) breaks down hydrogen peroxide into water and oxygen.
Then normally, you put the catalase into test tube and see if there is effervescence.
The control for this experiment would be: don't add catalase into test tube, and see what is the observation (should be no effervescene).
Therefore the purpose of the control for this experiment is to ensure that catalse is what causes oxygen to be produced, and not any other factor/variable.
Has that helped?

No those are variables. See my previous post. Hopefully, I've explained it well!
