(i)dy/dx= 3x2-6x+12

(ii) completed the square form is 3(x-1)2+9 and this is the gradient function so it will be least when the bracketed part is equal to 0 (when x = 1) and when this is so, gradient is 9.

fg(x)=4(9/2-x)-2k

36/(2-x)-2k=x

36-2k(2-x)=2x-x2

x2-2x+2kx+36-4k

two equal roots so b2=4ac

(-2+2k)2=4*1*(36-4k)

4-8k+4k2=144-16k

4k2+8k-140=0

simplify(divide both sides by 4)

k2+2k-35=0

(k+7)(k-5)=0

k=-7 of k=5
