The thing is we are not to determine what to use them for..
They have a life they wish to live in their terms. We cannot dictate terms and impose on them

We do determine what animals should do. We have the power to control them and put them to various uses. Not vice versa for obvious reasons.
I don't think its immoral to captivate animals. Sure, they have feelings too. But we captivate them for our use and benefit like zoos, circus and pets. Its not that we are captivating them pointlessly. So, its alright to captivate animals.
