how can u know the coordinates that crosses the x-axis as quick as possible :

Y= (x-2)^3 - 6(x-2)^2 + 9(x-2)

Y= (x-2)^3 - 6(x-2)^2 + 9(x-2)

solve for x

1) x = 2

2) -6x + 12
     x = 2

3) 9x - 18
     x = 2

are my answers correct? :S

take (x-2) as a common factor
 
(x-2)( (x-2)^2-6(x-2)+9 )
 
make y=(x-2)

so the equation will be like this

y(y^2-6y+9)

factorise

then...

y=0
y=3

which means
x-2=0   and   x-2=3

x=2 or x=5

this is a horizontal translation f(x-2) where f(x)=x^3-6x^2+9x from the previous question

since its f(x-2) then you hav to add 2 to all x points.
