Relocate the World Cup?
« on: January 10, 2010, 03:11:25 pm »
You must have all heard about the shooting of the Togo national football team's bus in Angola.

If you did not here's a couple of links from the BBC:

Togo footballers shot in ambush

Togo football stars tell of gun attack

You must have also heard that the African Cup of Nations starts today (the 10th of Jan). When the Cup coordinators were asked to postpone the Cup due to Togo's attacks, they refused stating that they did not have any security fears.

Now in 5 months, the world's best national teams are flying to Africa, to participate in the 2010 World Cup held in South Africa.

The debate here is, do you think it's safe for the teams to play in South Africa? Or do you think they should relocate it to another country.

I oppose the relocation because:

- The FIFA has approved of South Africa's security plans
- London had bombings a few years ago, but the Olympics are still going to be held there in 2012
- All the fighting is far from South Africa

But I also think that:

- We care about the team's safety
- The teams will only attend the cup if it is properly and highly secured (which will cost more money)

No he is not but I dont think sa cares that much about security. The anc warcry used to be "kill the farmer". I am not going there. And jacob zuma is frankly an ape for marrying so many women.

My views in this topic

How people are always undermining south africa (and as a matter of fact, africa as a whole) is just sickening. I remember a few years ago when they said South Africa wouldnt be able to finish the stadiums, and the World Cup will shift to Australia. People need o realize that africa is not one big refugee camp with a bunch of Zulus dancing around the middle.

They dubbed the Confederations Cup as the "dress-rehearsal of the World Cup", well didn't that go well? It was excellent, despite the fact that most of the world Cup Stadiums are still being improved.

and oh, don't worry, i promise you, when the planes land its gonna be on an airport and not a jungle

Bay of Cabinda has been under dispute for quite a few decades, just cause Angola is naive enough to hold so many matches in a disputed region doesn't mean South Africa will do the same thing

lets say it in clear words: Any attempt to divert the World Cup from coming to South Africa will be a completely racist and discriminative act

Nothing is worse than being surrounded by people and yet you still feel lonely
