statement : a ray parallel to the princilpe line will always refract and pass through the focus..
here the line at the top passes parallel and refracts and meets at 10cm (from the optical center)
therefore it is 10cm - "B"

In A it is connected in parallel..it won't change the p.d. The lamp will get the mains supply. Whereas in B the resistor is a potential divider and can vary the voltage . I hope uve understood
