Specialism
« on: October 08, 2008, 10:05:19 am »
If you want to study a particular subject you must found what each university's strengths are. They specialise extremely. For example, Durham England is  best in Theoretical Physics, and it was Southampton's chemistry depatment that produced 3 nobel prizewinners before it was closed down.

maybe, but in the uk we have maths, physics and chemistry departments shutting down all the time because they can't get enough students.

We should have a list of universities ranked by subject here. I will try and look for one.

research assessment - the  university is assessed for the quality of frontline research it's professors are doing and the results are published. The best reserch universities are frankly the best universities.
Entry stasndard - the grades you have to get to enter the university.
Graduate prospects - the sort of jobs that people get when they graduate and how much money they earn.
