could anybody please tell me how can you use a cro and measure applied voltage?

and the more important one .. the time base right .. whats the difference between it and an xplate to which alternative current is fed?
(if there is any.. because i thto before there wasnt .. but then saw this diagram on the book and got confused because you see there were
two diagrams one which said "after time base on and the current fed to yplates are alternative.." - it was a sine wave ..
and the otehr where i got confused was "after an alternating current being fed to both x and y plates" .. it had and y=x shaped linear graph.. ) help anyone please.. seems like the only stuff in phy dont get .. (so far)

the voltage is calculation depends on the amount of deflection on the y plates on the set input of the yamp gain. so the deflection on the y plates increases the voltage increases. so 1 vertical deflection on the screen shows 1 volts.

what i know about curves is tht if no voltage was supplied the graph would be a stright line parallel tothe x axis.. but if dc current were to be supplied, then a same graph is produced but with different  position (up or down) depending on the postion of the postive charge plate..eg: if postive plates was up and a dc current is supplied so the beam of electron would only deflect on tht side, hence the graph would be same as zero voltage but in different position depending on the beams, deflection.

when an AC current is supplied the postive charge changes its position so the beam of electron deflects in different direction continuosly thus causing a sine curve(up and down, up and down..etc)

this would have the same effect with time base on ,cuz here the position of charge does not change, the amount of voltage changes but i think it would have the same effect as as, excep it would be steepr and sharper turns..

Exactly man.. thats what i thought.. ohh.. I didnt get it from the book .. ts these notes by some guy called
prof A.S Ibrahim .. got it off from some guy in school who had em.. anyhows shoudlnt rely on them much see.. anyways
I have the Hodder Murrays's IGCSE Physics by Tom Duncan and Heather Kennet .. hmmm love tht one...

anyways.. thanks a bunch.. i get the y voltage thing now.. =] u best of lucks for exams mate!

Semiconductors have in common that their resistance goes down as temperature(thermisyor) or light level(LDR) goes up. A transistor is basically an electronic switch and a diode rectifier changes ac into dc

hi. Can anyone please solve question 1 (c) in m/j 2008? First variant paper. I don't really understand what you do after you multiply mass by gravity. I got the answer 500 N and I cannot figure out where I went wrong. Also I would appreciate it if anyone could explain to me how to predict the direction of the force in question 9 part c) (ii) in the same paper.

wait actually never mind about the first question...I'm an idiot and I just realized my mistake xD. Sorry!! (in case, anyone is curious I did the mass in grams and not kg so I got it wrong =P)

LOL I KNOW right? But there is no other way! xDDD And I sometimes, ok always, look like an idiot doing it, with my eyes crossed and trying to figure out which finger is for what! I look like a complete moron xD

Lets just hope its a straightforward question so we don't get embarrassed TOO much .

Oh and am I the only one who thinks Flemming used his hands waaay too much for it to be healthy? =P

lol  sgvaibhav, in the exam hall onle line of students would be pointing each at other (flemings hands)..so what if an examinner (who has no idea of flemings) would think......lol, some of them may try to curse each other with the fingers, but hey its no problem----cuz its physics ;D :D :P
