what is NO (normally open) and NC (normally closed) switch? it has something to do with reeds

a normally closed switch has a spring in it and has a set position of closed..
it allows the current to pass through..until the switch is pressed continuously
a normally open switch is the opposite of that
it prevents current to pass through when pressed..and when not pressed prevents current
like the ones used in those pain relief heaters..
it starts heating when u continuousy press the switch ,when it gets too hot, u release the switch///
