No one ?? :-[

Shogun:
alright then, to get any alcohol, if u would want to convert an alkane to an alcohol all u gotto to do is take out 1 hydrogen.

see methane is CH4 do methanal would be CH3OH with 1 H missing
now tht was the molecular formula what about the structural formula

lets say methane:  H                                  so methanol would be:    H
                               l                                                                            l
                          H- C-H                                                                    H-C-H
                               l                                                                             l
H                                                                            OH ===>with H replaced with an OH

same with all the other alkanes. for eg ethan (C2H6) then ethanol would be C2H5) OH) with 1 H(hydrogen atom) missing, and the same with its structural formula.
in the name all u got to do is add -ol-. instead of -ane-,

for eg:the -ane- in propane is replaced by -ol- to be propanol

now the isomer, u just have to move the -OH- from the structural formula
eg: butan-1-ol :
                          H H H H
                           l  l   l  l
                       H-C-C-C-C-OH
                           l   l   l  l
                          H  H H H

Butan-3-ol
                          H H H H
                           l  l   l  l
                       H-C-C-C-C-H
                           l   l   l  l
                          H  OH H H
Now see the number on the name depends on the the number of carbon (which is 3 here)(counted from the right) u moved the OH. see u moved the OH to the 3rd Carbon(from the right). If it was moved to the 2nd carbon then it would be name butan-2-ol. just place the number between the name and the "ol". u can also count from the left but the numbers change, but be sure tp follow the rules of isomerese where u should not place the OH on the last carbon atom of the structural formula.

ther u go, hope u understand

thukon:
all u have to do is take the number of carbons- for example if there are 6 carbons, then write "HEXAN"
Then, see where the OH functional group is- If its on the 2nd carbon (doesnt really matter what direction u count from, so it could be 2nd or 4th carbon) then write 2
Finally, since its and alcohol, u have to put the suffix -ol.
So we would end up with hexan-2-ol.
IF we have 2 OH groups, for example if theres and OH branching out from the 2nd and 3rd carbon, you have to write Hexan-2,3-diol.
IF the carbons have a double bond between them, then this would be an alkene, so you have to write Hexen-2-ol (the a in hexane is now an e)

SGVaibhav:
Can anyone please solve this organic chemistry question.

thukon:
Here u go.

AHHHH MY REP KEEPS GOING DOWN. WILL THOSE (mind ur vocab)_______ WHO DECREASE REP FOR FUN PLEASE STOP?
AND WILL THE PEOPLE WHO WOULD PROBABLY DECREASE MY REP BECAUSE I JUST SWORE PLEASE GROW UP?
