all u have to do is take the number of carbons- for example if there are 6 carbons, then write "HEXAN"
Then, see where the OH functional group is- If its on the 2nd carbon (doesnt really matter what direction u count from, so it could be 2nd or 4th carbon) then write 2
Finally, since its and alcohol, u have to put the suffix -ol.
So we would end up with hexan-2-ol.
IF we have 2 OH groups, for example if theres and OH branching out from the 2nd and 3rd carbon, you have to write Hexan-2,3-diol.
IF the carbons have a double bond between them, then this would be an alkene, so you have to write Hexen-2-ol (the a in hexane is now an e)
