Mack stared out at the vast expanse of water in front of him. The dark and murky waters mirrored his mood. Why? he thought. Why? The answer to his question was lost in the mists of time. No one knew exactly why the war between the Muggles and wizards had started, though Mack had a pretty good guess. According to his long-dead father, Voldemort had not died when the wizards had thought he had at the hands of the famous Harry Potter. When he returned, he wreaked such havoc that not even the Chosen One could stand up to him. All Mudbloods were hunted out and slaughtered mercilessly. No one was spared, not the screaming children, not their weeping mothers, not even their aged grandparents. In time, Voldemort grew to be the ruler of the whole Wizarding world. It was when he turned his sights to the Muggle world was when the trouble began. Mutations, perhaps the results of genetic experiments, had rendered a few people immune to the spells and curses of the Wizards. These gifted (or cursed?) people were not able to live normal lives. They were the outlaws of the society due to their mutations. Instead of asking them for help, the Muggles had shunned them, trusting in their machines to protect them from the Death Eaters. Foolish, Mack thought, foolish. Generation after generation of Muggles had fallen, leaving only the Mutants alive. Wizard War 1 had annihilated most of the wizards, though. Wizard War 2, which was against the Mutants, had resulted in the almost extinction of the Wizards. Now, most of the wizards left were either in hiding or slowly dying out. Good of us, Mack thought, to have made our clan.
