Are the Police Allowed to Stop You Cos You're Car is Old?

The police should not not be allowed to stop you unless there is suspicion you are commiting a crime.
In the UK they have all numberplate recognition stuff so they do all sorts of checks before they stop you.
And what they got today was
'not wanted for anything.
car is insured, taxed and legal.
driver victim of crime in past month'
On that basis they wasted my time.

But they're allowed to stop you if your car is REALLY old; that's when they take the car away for safety reasons.

But of course, if they insured your car I dunno why else did they stop you. ::)

I can be charged for wasting police time over here.

Old, and bad condition, they will have to stop you. it's the same in all everywhere.
