A-Levels or IB?
« on: October 16, 2011, 09:45:59 am »
Hi everyone :)
I am currently doing my IGCSE's, and am gonna give my boards this month..but I was bit confused as to whether to opt for A-Levels of IB after that?  ???
I'm Asian..and I want to abroad most probably for my Graduation, or possibly under-grad. :)
So, what is better, A-Levels or IB? Many people have told me, that after you do A-Levels, you get placements only in the UK, and that IB is more globalised, though I'm still a bit confused about the whole thing. Also, in IB more subjects have to be chosen right? And its meant to be tougher? :/
I would really appreciate if you guys could share your experiences with me about A-Levels 'cause I am most probably going for them. :)
I am planning to take up all commerce subjects.
Please help me out. :D

I suggest you to go for IB as it is preferred more by Universities in the U.S.

Most  universities accept both A-Level or IB so you can go to any university but IB is really hard to be honest with all its essay project and CAS. I suggest you go for A-Level since it doesnt have projects to do and you can focus more on your studies and score higher grades. :)

Thanks a lot for the advice..

Yes, I was thinking of the U.S, but then IB is no point if it becomes too much of a burden and I lapse under it..

Thanks Most Unique :) I guess that's what i'm gonna do. :D
But is the A-Level Course tougher than IB or is IB over-all tougher?

Both are tough anyway. And by the way, IB qualification has a higher rating than A-Level.

If you're planning to study in US then perhaps IB would be a good choice, but if you want to head to UK then I suggest you study A-levels.

Hope this helps : http://www.mydaughter.co.uk/educating-your-daughter/11-16/education-choices/sixth-form-choices-a-levels-or-ib/

IB is more like the US based system and therefore if you want to go to US/canada then do IB but it is not compulsory as people do get into us/canada universities even if they have done A-levels.
I cant compare both in terms of difficulty as I have no clue about the IB subjects but there is a girl I know and she is taking IB, she told me that A-level math is much more tough than IB cause they dont do anything of the sort we do in C3/C4.

Well, it basically depends on where you want to go for university, Maybe check the requirements for the uni(s) you plan to go.

Good luck
