English as first language help !
« on: April 12, 2011, 08:43:10 am »
I am going to appear for my igcse's in may .. I need to know how I should work to get an A* in english as first language ?
Currently my grades vary from B to A .... I want to know more about how to manage time between righting rough drafts and final answer because i have the habbit of writing the final answer directly but i end up cutting a lot of things and the paper looks like a mess   :D

I got an A* in First Language English.

1.) Keep your summaries to one page in length.
2.) Vocabulary - improve it.
3.) Do not make drafts in the exam. You wont have time.
4.) Crossing things out is fine, just do it neatly.

EDIT : One other thing, do not copy things word for word from the passage you are summarising. Write it in your own words and NEVER use actual statistics from the passage. Just paraphrase.

Thank you so much :) but at times it is important to pay special attention on the content .... how do i make sure that my content is apt for CIE standards ?
plus, where is it acceptable to use 'I' and where is it not ?
Any tips for improving vocabulary fast ?

u solve past papers and then check your standard by the mark scheme and if not to the mark then try to improve it
