why do u say mercury is the poorest?

both of ya are debating for the poorest heat conductor.

I am asking electrical conductor??? ???

Experimentally it has been found that it's conductivity is lowest. The reason behind this all its electrons fill up it's s,p,d,f orbitals and resists electrons from being removed. It has the tendency to behave as a noble gas.

This sounds fair enough for me. Though being in Group 4 it should have 4 electrons in its outermost shell and i doubt it will be as stable as a noble gas with that.

Am not here to prove you wrong.......i just want to understand :)

It won't be as stable. Ofc not. But it's a d-block element and has no empty d orbitals.

The electronic configuration of Hg is [Xe] 4f14 5d10 6s2

Hence it usually exhibits an oxidation state of +2.

it is much stable compared to other metals.
