Legalise Drugs

Acid (LSD), Crack, Ice (methamphetamines), grass (marijuana) etc. have plagued mankind for quite some time.
Recently the Mexican President had opened up a debate as to whether Drugs should be legalised in Mexico.
For those who dont know, Mexico is in the middle of a massive Gang conflict that is affecting the whole country. Gangs enter churches and demand worshippers to pay money for their protection.
Nuns have been raped and people are dying on the streets every day. The cartels are truly at war.
The president has theorised that by legalising drugs the supply to the market would increase and hence the Cartels would go bust....
After all their main source of income (pedalling drugs) would now be open to the general public.
Your views on the matter please.

Legalising drugs is accepting defeat. If this is done, more and more mexicans will be habituated to drugs, which is definitely not acceptable.
The government should gather the army, and conduct an operation, to shoot all drug sellers and traders. This is violence, but is necessary in this case.
